Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans Live at the Orpheum in Boston, MA

one of the most epic openings ever.

// Don’t let your past destroy your future.//

I can not believe 2 years ago I was out in Boston getting ready to record my album. These past few years all I’ve done is compare my life as it is currently to those amazing moments in that blessed city. All the innocence I associate with the time spent there. The simplicity that was life in that apartment and in that town.

I’ve realized I can have those moments anywhere. No matter how kind Boston was to me and the people in it. Touring has made me fall in love with so many other cities and so many other people. It has caused me to realize (not in the moment but now) there are going to be even more loving memories to have and share, amazing cities to experience and respect & great people I have yet to meet.

I say never forget your past, but don’t let it destroy your future.

i guess i’ll just wait

Tomorrow, I’ll be heading home. My trip was glorious I’d say.

RECAP

October 26th - Edward Sharpe

Performed in Anaheim with Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. That was quite the experienced, ended the night with my last in n out for 3 weeks and a chai from Cacao, and finally an early ass flight to Boston.

October 27th - November 1st - Boston, MA

Started by returning to Boston to see all the very familiar faces that were around and worked on the album. I got to celebrate halloween, have a much needed delayed celebration with the production team for the album, watch numerous Will Ferrell Movies, was covered in glitter by snow white, hung out with “Lenny Kravitz” and “Pee Wee Herman”. My Halloween was spent at Sunset Grill, and the night prior with Fajitas and Anchorman.

November 2nd - November 4th BOS - DC

Early November 2nd, I departed for Washington DC. Sounds easy, but it wasn’t. 4 and a half hour bus trip to NYC, then changing bus at a totally different Bus Station, to go to DC for 5 hours. Which was followed by a a slow and ghetto bus ride from DC’s Union Station to GWU to see London. Needless to say i arrived in DC around 8pm, after leaving Boston at 8am.

London and I got dinner, jammed in the park and then i slept on a very comfy blow up mattress  (yet had some difficulty trying to find my “nook”) on a dorm floor. Woke up at 11 am to be at my interview with Paula at WRGW Radio….The questions she asked were awesome, other than that, I’d prefer not to speak of my performance.

That night I got food with London, again. This trip brought me to the conclusion that all London and I do together is eat and sing.

November 4th, I left for NYC (which was a speedy bus trip by comparison to the BOS - DC trip.

November 5th - November 9th DC - NYC

I arrived in NYC late Thursday the 4th to relax, watch some tv and stuff my face. I swear this was the theme for the weekend. Besides being out ridiculously late Friday night (the 5th) at Jane’s Hotel. I literally slept and sat on the couch all weekend. It was great. Friday day, I had a bunch of meetings and Monday as well. GOOD MEETINGS TOO!

I got to meet up with some old friends and artsy pal Jill Black, one of my favorite people to spend time with in New York and the one I’ve been there most often with until this trip.

November 9th Bryan Brash and Thomas Estus arrived in town (unfortunately London Venturelli couldn’t make it) we prepared quickly for the Show at Arlene’s Grocery that night. Had a blast, was a very empty sound as the bass player we were going to use flaked last minute and without London as well. I’d say we pulled it off. I’ll be posting audio soon.

November 9/10th - November 12th NYC - BOS

After the show, we stuffed our faces. Some drank excessively, some went from being longtime vegans to being vicious meat eaters and some gave homeless people 20 bucks then proceed to defile peoples front doors.

At around 1 am, we were greeted by a lovely parking ticket and a long drive back to Boston. Bryan Brash was the driver for the night, and apparently he doesn’t remember a thing haha. We made it back safe and sound at about 5 am EST.

I woke up late, relaxed etc.

Thursday, I took Thomas Bobby, and Karima to the Natural History Museum (keep in mind, this is my 3rd visit, people really love this place). Got Chipotle, Got Italian in the North End, escorted Thomas to the Orpheum for his first Sufjan Stevens live experience.

Karaoke’d with Brad and crew. Later after Sufjan, Thomas, Bryan and I met up at Cigar Masters and relaxed late.

Friday, I prepared myself for what I had ahead of me at the Orpheum, another round w/ Sujfan. DING DING DING. Was better than all times prior. He was phenomenal. I walked home with a balloon, and an addiction to the new album.

I was joined by Bryan Brash and Dan Jimenez for this performance a special guest Danny Johnson on electric guitar for 1 song. The party went late and the craziness continued. Got to see a lot of great faces. Sunday, went to the gym, relaxed, got some work done. Same goes with today (the 15th).
